What is Microsoft OneNote?

Microsoft OneNote, as its name suggests, is a note-taking tool that also works as a way to organize those digitally noted thoughts. It is free, has many features and is available on almost all platforms.

OneNote can be used on both computers and smartphones and provides access to its many features, such as note-taking, drawing, importing material from the web and much more. OneNote also works with stylus technology, such as Apple Pencil, making it a powerful alternative to Evernote. It's also a great way for teachers to give feedback and take notes while keeping everything digital.

Microsoft OneNote is a smart digital notebook that allows teachers and students to jot down and organize their ideas. All notes stay in the cloud, via OneDrive, so you can access them on any device. OneNote lets you type text, write words and draw with a stylus, finger or mouse, as well as import images, videos and more from the web. Collaboration is possible across devices, making it a great space for classes or students working on projects in groups.

How does Microsoft OneNote work?
Microsoft OneNote works with an app, on smartphones and tablets, or software on a computer. It's available for iOS, Android, Windows, macOS and even Amazon Fire OS, but you can also use it through a web browser, making it accessible from almost any device.

Everything can be stored in the OneDrive cloud, so you can work seamlessly between devices. This also means that collaboration between students, or for marking, is super easy with a single file accessible to many.

Teachers can create class notebooks and within them create individual notes that can be assignments. This creates a space that is easy to monitor and in which both teachers and students can work.

The integration with handwriting tools is impressive and helps make this a cross-curricular platform that can support English literature and math as well as art and design classes.

Microsoft OneNote is a true multimedia platform, which means it can accommodate many different formats. It supports typing, written notes and drawing, plus imported images, videos and audio notes. Audio notes in particular can be a fun way to add notes to a student's work, such as to give it a personal touch while helping to clarify a point that needs to be made.

OneNote is well built for presentations, as it works with Miracast, so it can be used with many wireless devices. You can work on a screen in class, live, while ideas are noted and changes are made by the whole class via the teacher's device - or collaboratively by students and their devices, both in class and remotely.
