What is Microsoft Word?
Microsoft Word is a word processing program released by Microsoft in 1983. It is the most widely used word processing software. It is used to create professional quality documents, letters, reports, resumes, etc. and also allows you to edit or change your new or existing document.
The file saved in MS Word has the extension .docx. It is part of the Microsoft Office suite, but you can also buy it separately and it is available for both Windows and MacOS.
Microsoft Word is part of a family of software from Microsoft called Microsoft Office. Other members of the family include Excel, Powerpoint, Word pad, Outlook, Publisher, etc. With Microsoft available in both for MACs and PCs, it is the most widely used word processing program.
The development of Microsoft Word began in 1981 when Microsoft hired the lead developer of Bravo (the first graphical user interface word processor), Charles Simonyi, to develop the program. Its original name was Multi-Tool Word, later renamed Microsoft Word. Microsoft's first designs were intended to be used with a mouse.
