After this course, you will connect to various data sources such as Excel, databases, csv and pdf files and SharePoint lists, prepare data and build data models with relationships, calendar tables and DAX functions, create bar charts, line charts, pie charts, cards, tables and matrices, adjust interactions and filters, design a professional dashboard with visuals, bookmarks and conditional formatting, and publish your dashboard via Power BI Service.
The course consists of interactive videos, totalling 5 hours, followed by practical exercises at the end of each main module. The files needed to complete the exercises and the corresponding solution files can be downloaded, so you can apply everything yourself right away.
Module 1: Introduction. Format: video training, 8 minutes. Content: course presentation, presentation of Power BI Desktop, workflow and key concepts, how the course is organised.
Module 2: Importing and preparing data. Format: video training with practical exercises, 56 minutes. Content: connecting to an Excel workbook and a database, preparing, cleaning and filtering imported data, creating columns from examples and adding conditional columns, connecting to other data sources such as txt, csv, pdf and SharePoint lists.
Module 3: Building the data model. Format: video training with practical exercises, 44 minutes. Content: setting up relationships between tables, creating a calendar table, creating explicit measures, organising fields in the model view.
Module 4: Creating visualisations. Format: video training with practical exercises, 48 minutes. Content: creating a dashboard page, creating bar charts, line charts and pie charts, displaying summary data with cards, displaying geographic data, creating tables and matrices, using slicers.
Module 5: DAX functions. Format: video training with practical exercises, 31 minutes. Content: filter context and its propagation as a key DAX concept, using the CALCULATE, ALL, COUNTROWS, DISTINCTCOUNT and DATEADD functions, analysing trends.
Module 6: Managing interactions. Format: video training with practical exercises, 8 minutes. Content: managing natural interactions between visuals, drilling down into detailed data.
Module 7: Dashboard design. Format: video training with practical exercises, 51 minutes. Content: principles of application design (user experience design), preparing page backgrounds and themes, adding visuals and buttons, using bookmarks, adding dynamic titles and tooltips, using conditional formatting in tables.
Module 8: Publishing. Format: video training, 9 minutes. Content: overview of publishing to Power BI Service, publishing and using a dashboard.
